Sponsors that gave up on Cam Zink due to his constant injuries will be kicking themselves after his back to back Crankworx and Red Bull Rampage wins (SC I’m looking at you). Zink took the win this weekend at the Red Bull Rampage ahead of Gee Atherton and Darren Berrecloth as well as the overall title in the inaugural FMB (Freeride Mountain Bike) World Tour.
October 3, 2010 in Virgin, Utah marked Cameron Zink’s storybook rise back to the top. After being the most injury prone rider on the tour, Cameron fought back and made it known that Crankworx wasn’t the only contest he could win! Cam has the motivation, passion and crazy eyes that it takes to win the most demanding FMB (Freeride Mountain Bike) World Tour stop.
Dam son. Zink. Killing it.
After lying dormant for the past year, the Red Bull rampage came back with a vengeance in 2010. Nothing compares to the unique and progressive terrain of the Utah desert. This year, Red Bull elevated the exposure by bringing in NBC Universal and their 3D cameras for a soon to be released, mind bending adventure of big mountain freeride’s holy grail of competition.
Gee scored a well deserved second place, but there is no doubt injury plauged Zink deserved and earned the win.
Cam exploded onto the scene at one of the first Red Bull Rampage events with the help of some of his first sponsors SRAM, RockShox, Avid and Truvativ, and has never looked back. Cam has conquered big and small events, but never the Rampage. Even though his attendance was always felt at the event, he’s never even climbed up on the podium. This is an event built for Cam and his style. Now he can finally scratch the biggest, baddest and raddest event in the desert off his list.
Some time in the near future you may be able to ride the same Corsair Dominion frame that Zink won on. Not just yet though.
Cam is proud to be part of the SRAM family since the beginning of his career and just like Crankworx he made the Rampage a family affair with his closest family and friends supporting him today. Big congrats Cam. Well deserved.
