SRAM launches carbon MTB wheelset (and an alloy one)

Posted by Caleb Smith on Friday October 7 2011

The worst kept secret since, well, for a while, has been the fact that SRAM were to start making mountain bike wheels. I mean when you own ZIPP, the real question is why has it taken so long. Well with anything SRAM that’s because they’ve been testing the crap out of it. Heck when I stayed with Greg Herbold in June he was still testing the Rise 40s. Anyway as of today it’s all official. There’s two models, both available in 26 and 29 sizes, the Rise 40 is alloy and the Rise 60 is Carbon. Both are aimed at the cross-country trail rider and the weights are flippin’ impressive as you can see below.

HB with a bit of a problem with the Rise 40s on the Slick Rock trail. I'll have you know it was a skill I picked up in Africa that enabled HB to get back to his Jeep.

Very Cool, Kinna missed the mark on the Alum side, IMHO..

Shame about the lack of axle options. What happened to 20mm and 135×10??? Isnt that what A LOT of trail riders are using?
