Back in the Day – Lismore Forest with Team Wide Open

Sam Blenkinsop, it seems, never lacked steeze.

I was looking for some old skate photos for Manual Magazine’s 15th birthday celebration issue and stumbled across this disc of scans from sometime in 2003. Matt Whitaker and I had driven up to Wanganui to rendezvous with his newest signing, a young Sam Blenkinsop. Also around for the day was then Wide Open co-owner John Kirkcaldie and team rider Glenn Hayden. I can’t remember if Wyn and Eddie were riding for Matt, but they feature all the same. I think this sequence of Glen Hayden may have been an old Tioga ad in Spoke?

It wouldn’t have been a Spoke photo shoot without my trusty fish-eye. JK hits the wall under protest (it was faster to go straight!)

And the day was wrapped up with a little sunset shoot at one of the country’s worst skate parks (well, for skating). This is Sam, but some of you may remember Wyn’s cover from the same shoot.
