Longest Day Ride kicks off this Friday

Posted by Tama Easton on Thursday December 20 2012

At sunrise Friday the Longest Day Ride kicks off all over New Zealand – with a lot of people riding a lot of crazy-ass missions from sunrise to sunset.

Longest Day Ride Plans involve everything from singlespeeds, to tandems, to hike-a-bikes, to road bikes, to shuttling. With rides taking place from Auckland through to Dunners.

There’ll be a live stream of LDR tweets/ photos from around the country here.

It’s estimated a couple of hundred people are involved this year, with Longest Day Rides also happening on Saturday (which is about 1 second shorter than Friday). If you’ve got the time and inclination it’s not too late to end 2012 in a day long smorgasbord of riding.

Over the years the Longest Day Ride has taken on a fundraising element, with almost $5,000 raised so far for Arthritis New Zealand. For added singletrack goodness Southstar Shuttles will be running their buses in Whakarewarewa Forest all day long on Saturday, with $1 per rider, per uplift getting donated to this excellent cause.
