But we will let you know when they do ’cause some cheap trans-Tasman flights could be the go… Anyway there’s some pretty cool films coming up. Brian Vernor who made “Where Are You Go” and the cross film “Pure Sweet Hell” is back with a new Cylcecross film, “The Cylecross Meeting“. Then there is “The Birth of Big Air” a Matt Hoffman biopic, directed by Jeff Tremaine (who among other things is responsible for Jackass, Rob and Big, Big Brother and Go magazines) and produced by Johnny Knoxville and Spike Jonze. Going off the trailer and what you should know already about Hoffman, this film looks like it will definitely be one to check out! As well as the long awaited skate/bike film “Riding the Long White Cloud” All trailers below.

And I’ve posted this clip up a bunch of times as Manual (Spoke’s big brother) helped these guys out a bit on their trip and did a story on it in issue 34. This film is going to be next level; bikes and skateboards, frankly I couldn’t think of ANYTHING better.

Then there is this doco on the 4,828 Race Across America (Wellingtonian Josh Kench will be racing this in 2011).

So in case you were unaware this week in Wellington there is a festival celebrating 25 years of Mountain Biking in New Zealand. It started with the National Champs on Friday and will finish with the the Skyline Screamer (a three-up downhill eliminator on Wainui’s steep fire roads) on Sunday. But on Tuesday night, that’s tomorrow, Spoke is hosting the New Zealand premiere of Brian Vernor (Pure Sweet Hell and We Just Work Here) and Benny Zenga’s latest work, Where Are You Go. Where Are You Go documents the Tour De Afrique, a 12,000 km stage race from Cairo to Capetown. The film garnered rave reviews at this year’s Bicycle Film Festival and this will be your only chance to see it locally.

Four months on a bicycle between Cairo, Egypt and Cape Town South Africa is not your typical African safari.

En route with the Tour d’ Afrique, the world’s longest bicycle race and expedition, the Zenga Bros. (CAN) and Brian Vernor (USA) make light of this physically daunting trip by sharing a universal love of the bicycle with Africa’s roadside mechanics, sporting racers, and innumerable curious strangers.

Traveling more than 70 miles per day, 50 racers and expedition riders experienced the boundless Nubian desert of Sudan, the great majesty of Victoria Falls, and finally the cold rush of the Atlantic Ocean.

Where Are You Go captures the 7,000 mile expedition as a constant adventure full of playfulness and mysterious beauty, and is a testament to the endurance of human curiosity.

We will also be screening Billy Savage’s film Klunkers, which traces the history of the modern mountain bike from its inception. There’s some amazing archival MTB footage and a bunch of insightful (as well as cringeworthy) interviews with some inspirational MTB figures.

Where: Upstairs at Chicago, No.1 Queens Wharf, Wellington
When: 7.30pm Tuesday 2nd March
