So if there was another company out there with grippy rubber and the knowledge and success in other markets to back a foray into mountain biking then it would have to be Teva. Like 5-10, it’s a brand built on super grippy soles (though more aimed at paddlers and multi-sporters than climbers). But I’m guessing if you can make a shoe that grips to a slippery wet rock, you should be able to make a shoe that grips to a pedal. Teva think so and have put money on it, releasing two MTB flat pedal shoes, the Links and the Pinner. Designed by Jeff Lenosky, both feature Teva’s Spider365 sticky rubber. On top of releasing the shoes they are sponsoring Jeff Lenosky, Kurt Sorge and freeride superstar Cam McCaul, as well as signing on as best trick sponsor for Crankworx this year. Availability is looking like June in the US so it would be a few months later for good old New Zealand I’d say, but I’ll try to get some details from the New Zealand distributor. In the meantime you could email them here and find out where and when they will be available.

This just in from the Trek bikes ‘C3′ camp. What’s C3? Competition, cinematics and creativity. Looks like Trek could be one of the first BIG bike companies to embrace “freeride” culture and all its facets. Cool concept. Anyways read on for a breakdown of C3 at Crankworx Colorado.

C3 PROJECT UPDATE FROM CRANKWORX COLORADO: A WIN AND A TOUGH BREAK

(Waterloo, WI) Crankworx Colorado slopestyle competition marked the fourth straight Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour in which a Trek C3 Project rider took 1st place.

With Brandon Semenuk taking first place, his hat trick win means three in a row, not only for the Crankworx Colorado slopestyle event, but also for the last three Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour events, putting him in a commanding first place, with only three events remaining.

“It was a fun weekend in Colorado other than some of the weather issues, but my new Trek slopestyle bike was feeling dialled and helped me get in two good runs that led to my third consecutive win in Winter Park,” said Semenuk.

For fellow C3 Project rider Cam McCaul, it was a different story. After a stunning qualifying run, the Aptos, CA rider took it big on the double whale tail with an attempted front flip. The move, which he’s completed with ease in the past, resulted in a broken femur, putting him out of contention for the main event, Crankworx Whistler.

Always in high spirits, the energetic McCaul was excited about the news that the injury was the best it could be—a clean break with little complications.

Listen to him recap the story in his own words:

About Trek Bicycles
Trek Bicycle Corporation is a global leader in the design and manufacture of bicycles and bicycling related products and accessories. From Tour de France-winning road bikes to tricycles designed to introduce the next generation of riders to the possibilities of pedal-power, Trek has a bike for nearly every rider. Trek believes the bicycle can be a simple solution to many of the world’s most complex problems, including obesity, traffic congestion, and climate change, and is committed to breaking down the barriers that prevent people from using bicycles more often for daily transportation, recreation, and inspiration. For more information about Trek, visit www.trekbikes.com <http://www.trekbikes.com> .

About C3 Project
The C3 Project stands for competition, cinematics, and creativity, the three areas of focus for these non-traditional riders. Assembled in 2010, Trek’s C3 Project consists of four riders: Brandon Semenuk, Cam McCaul, Rene Wildhaber and Andrew Shandro. A dedicated website is forthcoming this season.

About the Bikes
Semenuk and McCaul both compete on custom geometry slopestyle bikes manufactured in Waterloo, WI. While both bikes retain the core design philosophy of Trek’s full suspension bikes (ABP, Full Floater, EVO Link and E2), both are built from unique Alpha aluminum tubesets, designed to their exact geometry and travel specifications.
