There’s more downhill mountain bike action, this weekend, at the home of Crankworx Rotorua.

The Skyline Sprint Warrior was postponed because of the weather during Rotorua Bike Festival week in February. It’ll now take place this Saturday, April 9.

The Warrior was a major success at the first two Bike Festivals in 2013 and 2014 before taking a break in 2015.

Returning by popular demand, the all-day event will use some of the dramatic and technical downhill trails at the Skyline Gravity Park – Sprint Warrior, Moss Piglet and Hipster. Riders will gondola up to the start.

The HUKKIT Sick Trick is also returning, with 10 hand picked competitors attempting their biggest tricks for a cash prize.

“In 2014 Cole Lucas took the title with a spectacular back flip,” said race organiser Adrian Ashmore. “As we saw at Crankworx, tricks are evolving all the time, so who knows what the riders will throw down on Saturday.”

The Mountain Bike Rotorua Fundy Hundy is a new feature of the Warrior and is for the ‘bigger-boned’. The Fundy Hundy is for riders over 100 kilograms.

“The highest placed of these in the Sprint Warrior will win $1 per kg of body weight over 100 kilos,” Ashmore continued. “We’ll be conducting random weight testing throughout the day.”

Race entries are strictly limited.

“Check out Skyline Sprint Warrior 2.0 on Facebook for entry details. And is it’s free for spectators, so make a day of it.”

April is another busy month in Rotorua with New Zealand’s leading off-road multisport events on Saturday April 16. The 14th Paymark XTERRA, swim, mountain bike and run will based at the Blue Lake with a brand new mountain bike course.

Entries are open at www.xterra.co.nz
