Geax rebrand to Vittoria and they want you

smith-XTR-2233In what is a pretty smart move from Italian tyre giant Vittoria, they have dropped the Geax name (which was their mountain bike brand) and brought all tyres under the Vittoria branding.  Vittoria had been producing off-road tyres under the Geax name for 25 years and have a serious legacy but for 2015 they are stepping up their game, by moving all their mountain bike product design and development to the USA in order to be closer to emerging trends. They have also made a significant new technology investment in their Lion Tyres manufacturing plant located in Bangkok. In addition to the move Vittoria have also nabbed ex-Maxxis man Ken Avery for their US opperations. Avery has considerable experience developing compounds and tread designs as a consultant for Maxxis. On top of that there's a bunch of new tyres in the works for 2015 and you can expect to see some high profile buzzword athletes join the likes of Cam Zink and the Jamis XC team on the roster.

smith-XTR-2228Right now though the folks at Vittoria have made it pretty easy to get in on the act and are selling this pretty cool Box Set of their 2.25 Goma tyres  (in 27.5 and 29") as well as an insulated CamelBak Chill bottle for $149! The bottle alone is worth a minimum of $20.50 which means your 730gram foldable tyres are only costing you $65.25 each, which is one sweet deal. smith-XTR-2231The Goma features a pretty aggressive tread pattern and has a super-grippy compound for fast descending and responsive braking. It's aimed squarely at the buzzword market, which means it's perfect for mountain biking if you like to have fun!

smith-XTR-2225This set showed up yesterday and will be going on a test bike any day now. We'll bring you our initial thoughts soon.
