Crankworx Rotorua 2015 has started off with a bang!
Day 1 has been full-on with the event being kicked off in the only way possible, with a massive Whip Off featuring one of the most stacked pro fields in Crankworx history. The Whip Offs were run in the standard whip off jam-style format. The Whip Offs saw upwards of nine different styles of whips, scrubs, flips, supermans and even a #stoppiesunday from Bernard Kerr.
The jump organisers chose to use the last jump on the downhill course. It’s a beautifully sculpted, E.O.D special, 60ft table that riders are comparing to the last jump on the Crabapple Hits trails used for the World Whip Offs as part of Crankworx Whistler.
The Whip Offs gave the jetlagged riders a great chance to stretch out their legs before the downhill kicks into gear tomorrow. Sadly some of the riders didn’t fly through the air as well as the planes they came in on. Luckily it was major injury-free and saw some incredible riding that Rotorua locals would normally only see on the internet.
Ryan ‘R-Dog’ Howard walked away with the win today, Connor Fearon took second and Bernard Kerr slipped into third place.
