Eagle vs Shark is a cult classic New Zealand movie, released in 2007 and featuring actors Loren Horsley and comedian Jemaine Clement. This movie is not that movie. If you haven’t seen it, well you probably should rent it on iTunes tonight, with your partner…or your mum.
This short movie right here features the recently completed grade 3 Eagle vs Shark trail in Rotorua. It’s a top to bottom kind of trail starting at the shuttle drop off and descending 350m of vert over 3.5km. One of Rotorua’s Statler and Waldolf Muppets (aka Bike Culture mechanic and RMTBC Trail guy) Rob Smail came up with the trail name and it stuck.
You could check this trail out this holidays by sweating it out in the summer heat riding up Direct Road and then the Frontal Lobotomy singletrack or you could take the Southstar Shuttle right up to the start. Incidentally the shuttle is scheduled to run daily, except for Christmas day, from today right through January, so if you’re in Rotorua on holiday make the most of it!
