What looks like a pair of freeride baggies, feels like a cross-country short and makes a girl look great? It’s the new Women’s Diva Short from Fox Racing, a comely all-rounder that will fit the bill no matter what your riding style.
I’ve long struggled with the curly problem of shorts selection. There’s nothing worse than grinding uphill wearing what feels like a pair of canvas fisherman’s pants, save for crashing in a rock garden and tearing a hole the size of Stewart Island in your Lycra shorts. The Divas have it covered with a Polyester outer that is durable but light; they’re built to withstand big prangs while staying breezy cool on summertime singletrack. Meanwhile, the long legs don’t ride up––no inner-thigh chafing here––and the removable Poly/Spandex inner liner features a generous four-piece moulded chamois. Comfy as.
As well as being practical, these puppies have put the tech back in technical, with no fewer than five outer pockets—two front and three rear, including one with internal cord routing for your MP3 player. There’s even a goggle/sunglasses wipe stashed in one pocket.
But the best part is this: the Divas are figure flattering. We like to pretend we aren’t vain, but no woman likes her belly poking out more than it has to, and so many shorts I’ve worn have had a zip setup that evoked the early stages of pregnancy. The Diva’s side zip closures mean a clean, flat line over your tummy, and the adjustable waistband ensures a perfect fit every time.
The verdict: a versatile short that makes your body look as hot as your riding. LAURA WILLIAMSON
