The downhiller and Team Red Dog Racing member took some time out from his busy schedule to answer some questions for us…..

How old are you? 22

Where do you live? At the Rose St Marae, Christchurch.

Who makes it possible? All the RDR Team Sponsors, Tait Electronics, Pip and Mum and Dad.

First bike? Red 16 inch BMX. First MTB was a Specialized Hardrock which I proceeded to ‘pimp’ out.

Best thing about traveling around the world riding your bike? Getting to see awesome parts of the world (and the adventures had getting to these places). Riding every day on chairlifts on the best tracks in the world. Meeting new friends along the way.

Best spot in the world to ride? Bromont, Canada. Trail riding at Craigieburn. Also have a soft spot for the Port Hills, Christchurch.

What can’t you travel without? iPod Touch. No one would hear from me for 2 months if I didn’t have Skype and Facebook on the road.

What can you not live without? Bikes and riding, things to look forward to, and of course my girlfriend Pip (I wouldn’t eat breakfast if she didn’t make it).

What’s your day job? Mechanical Engineer at Tait Electronics Ltd.

What motivates you to get out of bed and go to work each day? The prospect of working on a new project and knowing that the money earnt is going to be spent on new bikes and overseas travel.

Goals for the next MTB season? I’d like to be in the top 80 at the European World Cups, my main goal is just to ride to the best of my ability and beyond and be happy with every race run.

What are you doing now that the New Zealand Nationals are finished? Working and training hard. Mostly cross country, BMX, and gym work at the moment. MX vs ATV Reflex on Xbox has been keeping the Rose St boys pretty well entertained as well (CamCole76 is unbeatable).

What’s wrong with mountain biking? The cost, whether it be parts or racing. Mountain biking can be expensive! Also lack of recognition on a national scale. Our riders are killing it, yet the news would rather show Division 2 Rugby. I think it’s getting better though.

What’s right with mountain biking? Mountain biking on the whole is a great sport. No matter the code, it’s all fun and the people involved are awesome.

Who do you look up to? Nathon Sharratt, he’s like a mountain bike veteran at the age of 23!

What do you like best about living in Christchurch? The tracks are right on your doorstep and the whole mountain bike scene here is pretty pumping. Downhill in Christchurch is booming at the moment. Plus on hot days the beach is pretty close by. C1 coffee is amazing also.

What do you dislike about living in Christchurch? The dirt, it gets too dry here in the summer.

Favourite piece of bike kit? Hayes Brakes. I don’t know many people who have raced Saint Anne on Hayes 9s. Worked a treat.

What are your vices? Good coffee. Sleeping in.

Got any dirt / story of a pro MTBer you’d like to share? Last year, Amy Laird started weighing herself before and after her morning toilet stop. She once managed 1kg! (WOW- ed.)
