The Trans-Provence MTB race has become the definitive ‘all-mountain’ mountain bike event: six days, 280km, 9000m elevation gain, 14000m descending with 23 timed singletrack descent stages. Sounds like fun right?

Traditionally, enduro racing has been held on ‘blind’ tracks, with no practice held, and course details kept secret so even locals don’t have an advantage over visiting riders. It’s pure, ‘Mano-a-mano’ racing; he who can read the trail the best and pick the fastest lines will be the winner.

Ash Smith, who heads the team that runs the Trans-Provence, has been out exploring the local hiking trails to see what new trail may be incorporated in the 2013 edition, ensuring his event remains true to enduro’s roots and continues to have minimal home-advantage and remains truly ‘all-mountain’. Because, let’s be honest, you don’t generally get to do multiple runs down tracks so you can nail that section just right when you’re out in the backcountry do you?
