I was reading about the cycle lanes of Bogota, Colombia in Issue 9 of Boneshaker and felt I just had to share this incredible story with you guys. It’s nothing new and you may have heard of it but the fact that it happens in a chaotic city like Bogota is nothing short of amazing. I found this short doco on the whole thing that’s worth a watch.
Between 7am and 2pm every Sunday, 121km of inner city roads are closed to traffic. Yup, CLOSED to traffic and opened up to runners, walkers and cyclists. It’s been running since 1976 and has been growing ever since.
Imagine Wellington or Auckland’s CBDs closed to cars one day a week; how rad would that be?!
You can pick up Boneshaker (the world’s second best cycling magazine) in our webstore. We have current issues and a couple of discounted back issues as well.
Cool
Rad! That is very cool, when you think that is happening every week. Imagine that in Auckland or Wellington. Yeah!!
