New Zealand’s sole representative in the women’s XC at the London Olympics has been confirmed as Whakatane mother of two Karen Hanlen.
Having a great season in Europe, Karen was locked in a battle for selection with Beijing Olympian Rosara Joseph, and when both were injured on the technical course at the La Bresse round of the World Cup, it looked dire for both of them. Unfortunately for Rosara, her broken wrist put her out of contention and Karen’s solid results saw her book her spot on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
