Champion Burton snowboarder Kevin Pearce will visit Australia and New Zealand this month in support of special screenings of the critically acclaimed documentary ‘The Crash Reel’
Kevin will be present for a post-screening Q&A in a special charity screening in Sydney and at the NZ International Film Festival.

Elite athlete and champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce, the subject of the critically acclaimed documentary The Crash Reel, will travel to Australia and New Zealand for media interviews and to support special screenings of the film in Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand.
Directed by two-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker Lucy Walker (Waste Land, Countdown To Zero) and an HBO Documentary Films presentation, The Crash Reel is a gripping and unforgettable story which exposes the potentially high price of participating in extreme-action sports for athletes and their families.
Training to compete against rival Shaun White at the 2010 Winter Olympics, Kevin Pearcesuffered a massive head trauma, leaving him in a critical condition with a traumatic brain injury that forever impacted his sporting career and daily life.
The Crash Reel is a comeback story with a difference, as Kevin must face not only his lifelong disability but also the emotional heartache inflicted on his loving family when Kevin, with dogged determination, goes against their wishes and medical advice and decides to take up snowboarding again professionally.
Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival 2013, the film will screen as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival and the New Zealand International Film Festival. Kevin will also host a special charity screening of the film in Sydney, with proceeds from the evening going towards supporting the Royal Rehabilitation Centre, Sydney.
The Crash Reel will be released on DVD and Digital HD in Australia and New Zealand on 7 August, in the lead up to national Brain Injury Awareness Week
(12-18 August).

I am a survivor of a T.B.I. and when I watched this film it was very eye opening and informative. Very well done! I was really amazed at the almost exact mindset and attitude Kevin had toward returning back to “LIfe as Usual”, as if it were “no big deal”, as I did also. Having personally suffered a T.B.I., this movie really does capture how an injured person views their life, from their prospective, as apposed to the people around them. It told me a little bit about why I think and do the things I do sometimes. In reality the injury did change my life and lifestyle forever. And one last thing the healing process takes time!
