SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (July 16, 2014) – Kiwi mountain biking legend Kelly McGarry has joined the Muddy Tyre pro team to help launch the company’s innovative Bike Park App. The free iPhone & Android app allows users to track their favourite mountain bike parks around the world and discover new ones along the way.
McGarry is coming off a huge 2013 Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) season that culminated with a second-place finish at Red Bull Rampage. McGarry standing 6’4 with long hair and a distinct style, Kelly is one of the most recognisable riders on the FMB World Tour (currently ranked 5th). His backflip at the Red Bull Rampage over a 72ft canyon has been viewed 20 million times on the GoPro YouTube channel. Aside from shredding around the world, Kelly has built and designed top slopestyle courses – most notably the 2014 Colorado Freeride Festival course at Trestle Bike Park.
Muddy Tyre made its debut on Google Play and the Apple App store in May 2014. One of Muddy Tyre’s key features is the robust database of all parks’ weather conditions. The app displays the previous three days conditions, the next three days and real-time hourly data. All of this information is used in conjunction with historical data to predict whether the terrain will be wet, dry, or tacky. Other primary features include rider reviews, a news feed, trail maps for each bike park, and direct access to parks’ social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. McGarry remarked: “Muddy Tyre is a big leap forward for our sport. The information it provides is going to be a vital tool for all riders – pro or amateur.” Later this summer Muddy Tyre will be offering discounted lift tickets directly from the app. New features and additional bike parks and cross-country trails to follow in the coming months.
“We are stoked to have Kelly on the team as a rider, but we are also excited to have him as an adviser providing feedback and ideas for improving and developing Muddy Tyre,” said Muddy Tyre co-founder Daniel Wypler.
McGarry said: “I am really looking forward to collaborating with the Muddy Tyre team and lending my experience to the app and future projects.”
About Muddy Tyre
Muddy Tyre was founded by biking enthusiasts Daniel Wypler and Mark DiLullo to provide real-time information to the growing mountain bike community. The two mountain bikers, originally from Bergen County, New Jersey, grew up riding street and dirt jumps long before lift-accessed trails were available in the area. When Mountain Creek Bike Park opened for business, the teens named the Vernon-based park their home mountain. Now on opposite ends of the world – Wypler in Sydney, Australia and DiLullo in Boulder, Colorado – the two still ran into the same roadblocks with locating park conditions and information efficiently. Wypler and DiLullo with help from Jeffrey Hyun and Ricardo Davila developed Muddy Tyre for the countless mountain biking enthusiasts from every discipline – downhill, enduro, cross-country, dirt jumpers. Muddy Tyre is on its way to be becoming the go-to resource for every rider – the only thing they need before putting the bike on their car.
