NEW TAIPEI CITY, TAIWAN – March 5, 2014 – WTB unveiled several new tread patterns today during day one of the Taipei International Cycle Show, broadening its reach of mountain bike and dirt tyres from the light, micro knob Nine Line pattern to the aggressive, enduro-specific and sharply angular Vigilante tyre. New entrants to WTB’s lineup included the Trail Boss, Breakout, Cross Boss, along with additional sizing options for Nano, Nine Line, and Warden tyres. This brings WTB’s tyre line to 10 mountain bike tread patterns along with two new cyclocross and gravel tyres. “One of the most exciting things about this is the depth to the line,” commented WTB’s OEM Sales Manager, Jason Moeschler. “Looking at the mountain line, you can’t find a condition or application that isn’t covered. There are progressive differences between each tread pattern that separate the usage from the flyweight and blindingly fast Nine Line 2.0 through the predictable and versatile Trail Boss all the way to the mud-specific, dagger-like Warden tyre. Not only that, with multiple casing protection options per tyre, riders really get to fine tune their weight to pattern choice,” Moeschler beamed with enthusiasm.Much of the line’s development and progression occurred beneath the wheels of Team WTB, whom Moeschler is an integral part of, as well as WTB’s extended family of global racers. “With the team we have in place and the tools we have at our disposal, we’re able to actively change upcoming product before our racers’ eyes, expediting the development cycle,” stated Moeschler. Additionally, Moeschler went on to elaborate that while the new line is very comprehensive, new patterns are still actively in the development stage, slated for later release. WTB is also introducing new level options to their tyre line in the form of TCS (Tubeless Compatible System) Tough and TCS Light options. TCS Tough tyres get broken down into Fast Rolling and High Grip versions and much like the Riddler, spent much of their development time on the race course. “TCS Tough Tires are the direct result of the Enduro World Series,” stated WTB’s Product Manager, Chris Feucht when asked about the rationale behind the level. “I needed something that could handle battering rocks at full boar in Finale Ligure but wouldn’t unnecessarily kill me on the transit stages climbing like a downhill tyre,” explained Ben Cruz, a prominent member of Team WTB and whom Dirt Magazine proclaimed “America’s New Talent” in Issue #124. “I can’t use words to describe the confidence riding two full layers of casing puts into your racing. There is zero holding back your race run,” proclaimed Cruz. As alluded to, TCS Tough Tires employ two full layers of casing. Fast Rolling options combine 50a durometer sticky side knobs with 60a, longer wearing and faster rolling center tread, making for what WTB refers to as “Dual DNA Rubber.” High Grip versions use a 60a durometer, supportive base layer of rubber and a 45a durometer slow rebounding and conforming top layer of rubber for enhanced grip in demanding conditions. TCS Tough Tires will become available starting June of 2014. In the gravel and cyclocross departments, WTB displayed new Cross Boss and Nano 40c tyres. Both employ simplified versions of their larger, mountain-specific parent patterns reworked to create rounded, high volume profiles designed for speed over hard riding conditions. Available in 35 and 40mm casing widths respectively, the Cross Boss and Nano 40c tyres fill width and usage demands many cyclocross and gravel riders are requesting. Further rounding out WTB’s mountain portfolio are the Trail Boss and Breakout patterns filling trail and aggressive all mountain categories in the new line. WTB Trail Boss tires feature staggered side knobs, an even tread shelf, and abundant siping to create additional working edges as the tyre is ridden aggressively. Tight tread pitch and ramped center blocks were used in order to create a fast rolling tread pattern. The large, 2.5” width and 27.5” diameter Breakout tyre utilises square and oval blocks pulled to a medium pitch to allow for more control in dynamic conditions and enhanced braking. WTB Trail Boss and Breakout tyres will be available starting in June of 2014. |
