You might have heard of the Longest Day Ride; it’s the simple idea of going for a ride from sunrise to sunset on the longest day of the year.
It’s been around for a few years now in New Zealand and is gathering momentum as riders discover that not only is it completely do-able, but also quite a bit of fun.
It’s up to you how you want to ride; over the years participants have downhill shuttled all day, done 250km cyclocross rides, tackled every track in Whakarewarewa Forest, gone jungle, or ridden every bike in their garage – like Eric Porter.
The past couple of years it’s been run as a fundraiser for Arthritis New Zealand, raising over $4,000 last year. This year is looking huge with riders all over New Zealand starting to plan their missions.
Southstar Shuttles have already joined the party with shuttles running from sunrise to sunset on Saturday the 22nd of December. This gives Rotorua riders the option of all day shuttles, or massive trail loops with minimal climbing. For added karma Southstar will be donating $1 per rider per uplift to Arthritis New Zealand.
