It was a very busy weekend for MTB. There was the US Open (DH), the FISE event in France (FR), the fourth round of the World Cup in Spain (XC), The Lisbon Downhill (DH) and I think there was some Mountain States Cup action as well. Let’s see what went down.Okay seeing we have a picture of Kelly McGarry hitting the wall in the FISE event let’s check that out, the final results aren’t up yet (it’s midnight in France right now) but we know that Kelly qualified 7th, which is awesome. Sam Pilgram and Lance McDermot qualified first equal. Below is honorary Kiwi Phil Sundbaum walking (and shredding) the course. Both Andrew Taylor and Phil who where slaying the course broke forks (when you see the drop you’ll know why) which sucks cos’ I’m pretty sure they both would have ended up on the podium.

Over on US soil there was a cool US$5000 up for grabs for first man and woman in the US open. Sam Hill and Brendog owned it for Specialized placing 1st and 3rd respectively in the men’s. Team America’s Curtis Kenne and Kyle Strait landed Specialized two more top ten spots! Kiwi Kieran Bennett placed a respectable 12th. Full results here.

In Lisbon Steve Peat followed his win last week in Andorra with his eighth consecutive win in Lisbon at the inner city/village downhill race. Justin Leov continued this year’s fine form placing tenth. More info here.

And on the XC front, Madrid, Spain hosted the fourth round of the XC World Cup. The usual suspects cleaned up, with Julian Absalon and Margarita Fullana taking out the men’s and women’s titles respectively. UK based Kiwi Rosara Joseph didn’t do too bad with a 43rd in the elite women’s. Full results here.

So one epic weekend really, and all we are waiting on is Kelly’s final placing at FISE which I’ll post as soon as it comes to hand.
