This morning marked the end of Wellington’s 2014 Underground Super Series. After a condensed bunch of events saw things kick of last Wednesday in Karori, it’s been a whirlwind six stages that culminated today somewhere up the Kapiti Coast, on a course that had most riding back to the top for a third run!
Cowboy put on another stunner of an event and local knowledge prevailed it seemed, with Jay Lang, Fatty Cantwell and Eden Cruise taking the top three spots and all having ridden this gem of a track previously. But Derek Winwood’s first time on the loam wasn’t too shabby, finishing just 17.2 seconds off the pace in 4th.
Eden’s third place though, was enough to give him the overall series victory with Hadley in second and last year’s second place finisher Fatty in third.
Then it was party time as McCashin’s Brewery hooked us up in a big way with Stoke’s very tasty IPA and Rochdale Cider.
Oh and 100 Blackball sausages from the West Coast.
A MASSIVE thanks goes out to Craig “Cowboy” McGinnity who again put on another epic edition of New Zealand’s almost-longest-running-not-affiliated-with-the-MTB-Crown-full-colour-All-Duro™ event. Till next year!
Yeah Cowboy… Is the man.
Superbly-run, low-key series. Thanks, all. Great to see generations of local riders enjoying the tracks together.
