Week 6
With just the two of us (Ash and the Ranger), we went up to Fort Collins for a visit with Ash’s Colorado family and the famous New Belgium Brewery. This place was amazing! Free brewery tour, beer samples along the way and major talk about bikes. New Belgium not only make great beer, but puts a huge effort into sustainability (they have their own wind farm!) And they’re good to their staff; after one year of working there you get a bike, and after five years, a trip to Belgium. Here’s Ash’s sweet new socks care of New Belgium.
Grand Junction and Fruita!
Back into the desert for some riding! Noah from MRP (courtesy of Caleb’s gift of the gab) was our tour guide for the weekend. He and his girlfriend Sparky took us all around the local spots including 18 road (flowy and fun), Kokopelli (singletrack on cliff edges), and Lunch Loops (rocky death drops). When we weren’t riding or hiding from the sweltering sun, we ate pizza at Hot Tomato and some seriously good Mexican food.
Steamboat Springs, Colorado
This is quite possibly the coolest little town we have been to yet. Awesome riding in an alpine setting complete with a river and a hot springs where clothing is optional at night (no photos of this spot). We went on a great cross-country ride following the Continental Divide from Rabbit Ears pass to the top of Steamboat mountain. The half hour downhill ripped through the new Steamboat bike park. Even though this park is in its infancy, it has massive potential, and we can’t wait to come back!
Park City, Utah
A quick stop in Park City meant a trip to the Canyons Bike Park and camping with a $5 bottle of wine. Since it is the end of the season for riding we were pleasantly surprised with two for one lift tickets. We rode to our heart’s content and the ranger did some sweet jumps.
Now for a 10 hour drive to Mammoth, California for the last weekend of the riding season….yeah baby!
I looked after my kids and did some (house) painting this weekend. So, kinda the same thing…
Yeah, right.
oh marky, you are more than welcome to join us…we do have extra spaces now.
