Queenstown photographer Miles Holden just flicked me through this recent shot of Queenstown’s Gorge Rd jumps. He shot the photo for an up and coming Red Bull BMX event that’s set to see some heavy hitters from Aussie and the US descend on the party town. Right now I wish I could jump, and that Gorge Rd mastermind Nathan Greenwood could build a few more of these around New Zealand!
RIDERS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE WILL DESCEND UPON GORGE RD JUMP PARK
in Queenstown, New Zealand to compete in Red Bull Roast It, putting themselves in the hunt for the “Best Rider” title and a share of the $5000 total prize pool. The jump park at Gorge Rd is a painstakingly handbuilt dirtjump heaven, evolving over the years to become one of the premiere dirt parks of the world. Line after new line awaits the field when they come together on February 18, pushing the progression of BMX and judging each other in each jam. Who has got what it takes? Who will have the best roast? Who will walk away with a $3000 cheque and the new respect of their peers?
The format is 10 man jam sessions throughout the day with the top five from each jam progressing onto the next round. The top 10 riders will throw it down in a final session of jump roasting to find the winner. “Best Line” and “Best Trick” riders will receive $1000 cash each, voted for by all the riders but not necessarily having to be from the final 10.
With an international field including Anthony Napolitan (USA), Brandon Dosch (USA) and Jai Bradley (AUS) confirmed, Red Bull Roast It is sure to bring out the best of New Zealand’s talent to take on the overseas big guns. The remaning field will be a combination of local invites and wild cards who make it through from the qualifying round at 10am on the Saturday.
On Saturday February 18th from 12pm make sure you are at Gorge Rd Jump Park in Queenstown so you can……
Get ready to Roast It!
