Easton’s new Carbon Haven is probably one of the most highly anticipated wheelsets of 2010/2011. We first got wind of them at Sea Otter back in April but the production wheels have just rolled in the door at WH Worrall (Easton’s distributor) this week. Built from the ground up for trail and all-mountain riding, the Haven Carbon wheelset relies on Easton’s exclusive Advanced Ballistic Composite (ABC, best acronym ever) technology for incredible toughness and low weight. 20mm 0r 15mm front wheels are $2100 RRP and 135mm QR rear wheels are $2200 RRP. To find out where you can get a set email W H Worralls here. Full press release back here.
The new Haven Carbon. Designed, engineered and manufactured by Easton in their wholly owned EMX composite factory, the Haven Carbon is feather light and UST compatible, but tough as nails thanks to the use of an entirely new composite system—Easton Advanced Ballistic Composite.
Weighing just 1,450 grams per pair, the Haven Carbon is the lightest carbon rimmed, UST compatible all-mountain wheelset on the market and features the first carbon rim designed exclusively for the rigours of rugged trail riding. The Haven Carbon features a generous, 21-mm internal rim width that will accommodate tyres up to 2.4 inches wide and is backed with a two-year, no-questions-asked insurance policy – a first for the bike industry.
The $$ cost per gram of weight saving just sky rocketed. 1800 gram custom wheels = $900. Less 350 grams at a cost increase of $3400 = $9.71 per gram. WTF?
I’d hate to be a wheel builder with that magnet hoodickie nipple thingamabob.
Who cares, wheres my chequebook? Sooo nice.
