We just received an e-mail from a Spoke reader who had a bit of a run-in with his large chain ring. “Halfway up a steep section in Mt Vic in almost granny gear,  a gnarly tree root put me off balance and lay me over to my left. As my right foot exited the pedal clip, my big chain ring decided to attack my calf with a vengeance. At least it was a downhill cycle straight to A&E.  The only positive was the trainee nurse’s interest in viewing my exposed muscle.  I’m off to purchase a bash guard.”

Ten days off the bike should give Nigel enough time to lose that big ring and install a sweet blood red bash ring!
