Yesterday our latest test bike showed up ready for its Spoke beatdown. As you can see it’s something totally new to New Zealand and that is the Lapierre brand. Our Zesty 314 test bike is part of a small shipment that has shown up prior to the main range of bikes, so don’t go rushing into stores just yet (you can email Lapierre here to find out who will be stocking them and when). Anyhow the 140mm travel Zesty is one of Lapierre’s two all round trail bikes, the 160mm travel Spicy is the other. The Zesty comes in five models ranging from the full carbon blinged out 914 model, down to the 214, we have the second from the bottom model the 314.
Much like the Specialized Pitch we reviewed recently, essentially you’re getting the same frame as on the higher models with a slightly more thrifty build, surprisingly though the Zesty 314 build kit is reasonably sound. It’s getting its first ride today so until then we can’t really tell you much more about it, other that we are pretty dam excited to get this bike out on the trail and to finally see Lapierre bikes available in New Zealand.

Good move on the ISCS tabs, but a QR fork and no cable routing for dropper seatpost is a pretty big fail for this sort of bike in my book. Cool rear mech protector though.

Dunno if this will reflect the prices from local sources, but here is a price guide:

I have the 2010 zesty 314 and think it rides great. Ive fitted a shorter stem, wider bars and a chain device. The brakes are amazing. I had to be careful when I first got it not to pull to hard, Ive nearly been over the bars a few times.

Great bikes from what I hear, shame they took so long to arrive, the new modes are about to drop offshore.
I’d live to see internal cable routing on bikes like this. Mondraker have done it on the Summum and people love it, why aren’t other manufacturers carrying it over?
ISCG tabs – hell yeah!
