Nelson host the Best of the Best (and give BikeNZ the bird)

After being unable to agree to terms with BikeNZ for the scheduled Jan 18-20 2013 NZ MTB Cup round in Nelson, a frustrated and disappointed Nelson MTB Club withdrew its offer to host this event. However, as the event had been widely advertised, the NMTBC felt an obligation to the many MTB riders who will have made travel plans, as well as to the local riding community who eagerly look forward to a national level event of this kind each year on their home trails.

Top Gun will run on the same dates as the cancelled NZ Cup round, but will not be linked to the Cup and will run as a standalone event. The format is designed to reward with an overall title and prize money in both Mens and Womens categories through the Top Gun format, where the Sunday afternoon Super D race will determine who wears the inaugural crowns for 2013.
