So the second box arrived a little later in the day and came direct from WTB in the US of A. Its contents definitely got me a little excited. It contained a couple of new 2.3 TCS Weirwolfs, and two new Mutanos, a 2.2 and a 2.4. as well as a Brian Lopes 205 gram pro-model Silverado saddle and a Ti railed 215 gram Devo as well. Existing WTB Weirwolf fans (as well as those that have never ridden them) will be pleased to know that Mark Weir and the folks at WTB have given the venerable Weirwolf a bit of a redesign, changing the knob arrangement to allow for continuous traction while cornering hard. The other big news on the tyre side of things is WTB’s new Tubeless Compatible System or TCS. While most other tyre companies have been discouraging the running of aftermarket tubeless systems (in some case not warranting tyres that have been used with Stans’etc) WTB are heading the other way and are in fact recommending it. The new TCS bead in fact is designed to work with Stans and other similar conversion kits and combined with WTB’s nylon strengthened side walls (Inner Peace) radically reduces sidewall flex while not adding a whole lot of weight. These will also be getting the full review for issue 37 but we’ll keep you updated on the web as well.
