Caleb, Chris Beverland and myself have spent a couple of days in the last two weeks with Ivan from Red Bull scoping lines and designing a downhill event with a difference. The race will run from the top of the Martha mine (Waihi), around the side and down to the open-cast mine floor a few hundred vertical metres down. We’ll be incorporating as much mine equipment, machinery and radness as we can get away with in an operational mine. It’s been a loooong time since New Zealand has seen an event with ‘a difference’ and this event certainly fills that spot!

Pro boys get your act together as there will be some good prize money up for this one!

More details will be available soon, but keep 4th Dec open for a road trip to Waihi! More pics after the jump….

All photos and video thanks to GOPRO cameras.

  3. In view of the recent events at Pike River Coal Mine in Greymouth, Red Bull has decided as a gesture of respect to postpone the Red Bull Rock Drop.
The mountain biking event was planned for Saturday December 4 in Waihi, but is now postponed until further notice.
