The Red Bull Rock Drop (4th Dec, Waihi, New Zealand) is coming together well; the bones of the course are finished, with jump building the only remaining phase of the course build. It’s been unreal to see the enthusiasm of Newmont mine, their employees, contractors and the Waihi townsfolk, with everyone digging in (literally!) to bring this unique event.
So far we’ve got the creme of the New Zealand downhill scene entered, along with a few motocross racers, BMXers and a few general mad-men. The course is pretty varied, from straight gnarly rock chutes, flat pedally sections, to big jumps and 70km+ speeds on a couple of sections…. It’s going to be FUN!
So if you haven’t booked the weekend in Waihi for 4/5 Dec then get on it! The sun will be out, racing will be hot, there will be a good afterparty, and of course there’s a beach just up the road!

And I’m right in thinking this is free for spectators?
Jamie- Yeah FREE for spectators, going to be a super good day!

You expecting people to show up with bikes or bundles of ropes, sticky shoes and bags of chalk?

Roll on the 22nd. That’s when we get to see who’s got into this race.
