Mountain Bike Otago hosted the South Island Secondary Schools Championship this past weekend to a record 275 entries from more than 60 schools.

Saturday dawned bright and dry, but that was soon to change, with the heavens opening mid-afternoon just as the seeding runs for the first event, the downhill, were finishing up. The downhill race runs were held in a torrential downpour, making for a slippery, and very muddy, course.

The super D, which followed the downhill and involved racing over a course that had both technical downhill sections and steep climbs.

The cross country event, held on Sunday in better weather but with slick conditions persisting on the ground.

In the end, Shirley Boys High School took out the overall First Place, followed closely by Mount Aspiring College in second and Cashmere High School in third.
