The Wellington Mountain Bike Club is bringing back the Super D to Mt Victoria bigger and badder for 2012. They have already begun work adding in extra features on the top section of the track (if you want to help build head here). Last year’s event saw around 160 entries and by all accounts this year’s may well sell out (entries are limited to 200). You can enter online right now. Last year’s event was mainly locals but if you’re from out of town I strongly urge you to make a weekend of it. Wellington has some amazing riding to cater for pretty much every style of riding, so get that entry in and book some accommodation now. Oh if you didn’t realise, Mt Victoria is actually in Wellington’s central city; from the starting line you can get to nightclubs and backpackers in under five minutes! Anyway enough of that, here’s all the info you need. Or you can head here to the Super D website. Or you can check out coverage of last year’s event here, and this bike review is actually on the Mt Vic Super D track.

The Wellington Mountain Bike Club in association with Port Nicholson Poneke Cycling Club are proud to present the Urge Mt Victoria Super D for 2012 – to be held on on Sunday 25th March 2012.

So what is Super D?

A Super D race is best described as a Downhill Cross-Country race. It features a track that includes short technical elements and small jumps from downhill and has some pedalling to ensure that fitness and pedalling speed are rewarded.

Race format
The day starts off with an open practice session from 9:30am till 12 noon.

Transport is provided throughout the day to carry competitors and their bikes from the bottom of the track back up to the top of the hill (where the track begins).

The morning’s practice session will also be used to seed riders for their race runs.
Every rider must complete the full track from start to finish at least once during practice.

Each rider will have one timed race run from top to bottom of the track with the shortest time in each category taking the win.
