Top Gun 2013 is all done and dusted, and it worked really well. The format had things humming and building right into the Super D yesterday evening, with the overall winners well deserved. Jamie Nicoll and Harriet Harper took the overall honours. The Men’s contest especially was incredibly tight with at least five riders going in after DH and XC who could have won this, and the jostling and points combinations had everybody right on edge until the last Super D rider on course (Ethan Glover) finished.
Downhill was amazing, with Reuben Olorenshaw taking his maiden Elite win in a field containing Brook MacDonald (in his first race in TWR colours), and Harriet Harper putting it all together to edge out the UK’s Jess Stone. XC Racing NZ rocked in for the Cross Country yesterday, with Dirk Peters taking a big stick to the rest of the Men’s field. But the Super D is the event that drew the numbers and the fresh excitement. The legend of Top Gun lives on!
